On August 8th I took our pup Bentley to Perfect Scents K9 boarding facility. On August 16th, my husband and I went to pick up Bentley. Nathan, the owner of Perfect Scents K9, seemed to be scrambling. He was telling me, before even getting Bentley, that he had stayed up with him during the night as he wasn't doing very well. He wasn't eating or drinking. He told us he had been away 3 days, and when he got back, he noticed that Bentley wasn't doing so well. When we dropped off Bentley, he was in perfect shape! After at least 10 minutes Nathan finally brought out Bentley to us. I started to cry immediately as Bentley could hardly walk and couldn't hold his head up. His eyes were full of puss. He looked like he was ready to die. My husband picked him up and rushed him to our truck. Nathan went on to tell me how sorry he was that we had to go through this with Bentley, and that he tried several different types of food to get him to eat and he wouldn't. No explanation of what happened. Nathan seemed panicked. We immediately rushed him to the emergency hospital in Brantford. Bentley had puss coming from his eyes and blood drooling out of his mouth. He also had large contusions, massive sores, and his legs were either covered in urine or blood. The fur was all stuck together. They kept him overnight and watch him very closely. The next day, with the vet’s guidance, we decided the best thing would be to let our precious boy go. He was in such pain. His organs were shutting down. The wounds that they uncovered were horrific. Bentley had multiple contusions, multiple sores, bed sores and puncture wounds which were completely infected. t was unbearable to see our pup in such bad condition. On Monday August 18th, I went to Perfect Scents and confronted Nathan wanting to know what exactly happened to our Bentley during his stay. I showed Nathan the pictures that were taken before Bentley passed away and he acted shocked and upset. He went into complete panic mode and stated it was so hard to find good help. He then admitted that he had been away from the kennel for the whole week in Niagara Falls, starting Monday to Friday. I asked him about camera footage, and he stated that he did have cameras, however, sometimes they don’t work. I then confronted a young girl who Nathan had said had been there all week with Bentley, and she said, we noticed on Thursday that he was slowing down. I asked her several questions, and she couldn’t give me a straight answer. She couldn’t even tell me if he had eaten or not. When asked why she did not call me and she replied, I didn't have your number to which Nathan corrected her in saying that yes, they did. I was so angry I had to just walk away. Nathan said that he would pay all the vet bills. He also sent me a text message saying that he would pay all the vet bills as well. I truly thought that Nathan would be a man of his word and pay the vet bill which amounted to almost $4,000, but he didn’t. He even accepted payment for Bentley’s stay there which I had completed via e-transfer before he brought Bentley out to us the day we picked him up. When we put Bentley down, an autopsy was not discussed. I guess this was our biggest mistake, as it gave Nathan an out as to not pay the bills. He advised me that he consulted with 3 veterinarians who all came to the same conclusion that Bentley’s death was due to an underlying condition and he will no longer take responsibility for any vet bills. What vet could have said this? He also emailed me threatening to sue me for slander. This is not slander. These are the facts. Nathan should take full responsibility for what happened to our beloved Bentley. What happened to cause all the wounds? Since then, I have had Bentley’s medical records reviewed independently and have been advised that he was totally septic when we got him to the hospital and that there was probably nothing we could have done to save him. We could have saved him if we brought him in 2-3 days earlier. It sickens me that they will not take responsibility for the demise of our Bentley.

PLEASE DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR BELOVED ANIMALS! When disaster struck our home and needed to send our dogs into longterm boarding while the entire house got gutted in renovations. We trusted Nate and his team because we had boarded with them on many occasions for short term boarding such as weekends and up to 2 weeks at a time for vacations in the past. But what happened to us is the last thing I would expect from him. The time finally came to bring my dogs home and Nate tried to extort me. Claiming I had never paid him anything, even though I had etransfter receipts showing thousands and thousands paid to him over the months of his service. He said if I want to come pick up my dogs, I have to bring him $24,000 as if I had paid him nothing. I obviously protested to him that I had been paying in full the whole time, and he still refused to admit that and said pay up or I dont get my dogs back. I called the OPP and they were of ZERO HELP! They said this was no different than a dispute at the automechanic and they were not going to help me get my dogs back. I would have to sue him civilly and he gets to keep my dogs if he wants them. So, I called FURWARRIORS and explained that the OPP was bot helping me, she's said the police officer I had was wrong and lazy, and gave me instructions to show up to the kennel, demand my dogs (my property) then call the OPP there to assist me in receiveing my (stolen) property from his property. I am not one for conflict like that. So then I had no choice but to call animal welfare of Ontario to help. Nate had never sent me a single photo of the condition of my dogs in the months they had stayed there and told me I was not allowed to come see them in person ever, claiming it would upset the dogs and imply abandonment. So not seeing the condition of my dogs I was imagining the worst at this point, and made the call. Well isn't it ironic that the very day I called and reported him to Animal Welfare Ontario that he magically messages me and says you can come pick up your dogs now? No more talk about money, just come get your dogs. When I picked up my dogs I will never forget it, the bittersweet moment of seeing thay they ARE in fact ALIVE. But their condition was absolutely heartbreaking. The thousands of dollars in food he was charging me for was clearly going to ther people's animals, because both of my corsos that went in happy and healthy over 150lb each and full of life came out horribly under weight with even muscle loss they were so bad. For 3 weeks straight after coming home my dogs ate ravenous like they had never been fed before in their life. Over 2 months later now and I still do not have them back up to weight. One of them is going for a $2000 dental surgery for a gum condition that would be prevented with any amount of care and observation. The smell of urine and feces on them was overwhelming and took two baths each to get everything off when they first came home. One of the dogs now has sores all over his elbows from having nothing but a hard surface to lay on for the months he was there, it is healing but when he came home it was really bad. I never knew this place was so awful because I only had my animals there for short periods of time, but this was overwhelming and shocking to say the least. The young girl he had there at the pick up gave us an excuse as to why the dogs were in such a poor condition, apologizing, saying Nate and his family were in a car accident the night before... how did the 8 months of starving and never bathing or grooming my dogs get excused with a car accident the night before my pick up? I have no idea why she even tried that, the whole thing was so messed up. Please DO NOT trust your animals with these sickos. They don't deserve to have animals in their lives at all.

We were very pleased with our first over night visit for our one year old puppy, Cocoa. He seemed to have loved his stay, and be quite comfortable! He did not even stop to say good bye to us, just walked happily to the back.
